Jackson felt she had to get involved with the fight, and decided to take action the best way she knew how -Through entertainment, fashion, and education.

Bringing the community together to educate, empower, and entertain all for a cause, through partnership, PAP raises both awareness and financial contributions for other established and reputable foundations.

PAP ability to educate and raise public awareness in exciting and innovative ways is further enhanced by the personal involvement in individuals who have experienced or are currently experiencing the effects of one of the many illnesses we fight against as a society. Their involvement helps to ensure a direct impact in their lives and allows each participant to leave our event feeling uplifted and empowered.

MICHELE’S STORY

“WHILE ALL OF MY FRIENDS WERE HAVING FORTY AND FABULOUS PARTIES, I WAS HAVING A MASTECTOMY.”
Posh For A Purpose – Michele’s Story

I could feel the fear trying to break through. After watching my sister battle breast cancer, I never wanted to entertain the thought of it happening to me. The problem was, she carried the gene, which means I could also be a carrier. What does that mean anyway-you’re positive for BRCA1? It means I could be at a higher risk to get breast cancer. Well, I thought, just go to sleep and don’t worry about it. Unfortunately, that was impossible.

Not only did my sister receive a diagnosis at 28, she had a recurrence about 14 years later. This scared me even more, but not enough to go right to the doctor. I mean really, it was probably nothing. So, I continued my daily routine. Things were going well. I even received a promotion. Then one day I started to feel pain in my underarm area. It never dawned on me that this pain could be related to the small lump in my breast. I felt the lump and it had gotten a bit larger. At this point, calling my doctor was no longer an “option”. After having to wait a few days to get an appointment, I finally got in for the mammogram. Only it was different this time. It was followed by a breast ultrasound. My faith is strong; however, admittedly challenged. But, I believed.

Like many women who are faced with this disease, I too, began to ask those obvious questions… Am I going to die? How will my husband and children handle it? Even if I don’t die, will he still want me? If I don’t like my body, how will he? How will this affect our marriage?

As time passed, these questions persisted and eventually evolved into one main question….Why me? It was at that moment I realized this was bigger than ME. The more I prayed and sought God for clarity, I felt His answer, but in the form of a question…..Why not you? I felt Him say people need to see His works and His strength through me. I knew then, there would be a testimony of God’s favor and power that was to come. I didn’t know when, but I knew God was in control. He kept me sane and I could feel His touch when I needed it most.

Today, my cancer has been in remission for four years, and it’s become more and more inspiring to speak to those around me about this disease. While I admit I’m still finding and adjusting to my “new normal”, I can say with complete assurance-there is life after breast cancer, and I intend to live it to the fullest!
